Radarchart

Purpose & Application

The radarchart is the best chart to compare two groups or more on several dimensions at the same time.

It allows you to get an overview of each group scores/performances by comparing their areas, and then to focus on specific dimension of the radar.

📝 For example, evaluate the success of two adverts on the same market metrics (awareness, consideration, purchase).

Use this chart when you want to compare the performances of several entities, on different metrics. It allows you to :

  • Compare the entities between themselves, overall and on a specific metric

  • Compare the metrics, and see where the best/worst scores are obtained

Key features

What makes this chart a killer story?

  • Units and precision give context about the values you are displaying: it is especially useful if you’re comparing metrics which are not straightly related.

  • Display values to help decision makers focus on what’s important. We know sometimes radarcharts can be difficult to read because of the multiple dimensions that can be displayed.. It allows your users to quickly read and understand this viz!

  • Order your viz to make relevant informations display first: do you want to look for the top movies profitability?

  • Display chart as parallel plot if your users are really not used to reading multidimensional charts, it allows you to show metrics in the same direction and makes easy to compare the shapes of each entities you’re analyzing

  • Fill series rather than outline to add some colors to your chart which can be a great way to highlight a specific entity or the average for example.
